On August 4th
the Rush was in fine
fishable shape, as long as you could convince
the fish to bite.
The tricos were still doing
their daily hatch-spinner fall, but had shifted a bit
earlier. Although the spinner fall was still mid
morning, look for the little buggers to be
hatching more toward 6:00 AM.
Definately early for some folks, but in the
heat that we've been having, it can be a good
idea.
As for the rest of the day, look for the
regular nymphs that you trust in to take some
fish, mainly small, dark naturals like p-tails
and adams nymphs around size 18. Keep a
good selection of hoppers ready, since I like to
toss a parachute hopper midday rather than nymph
for hours on end.
On August 11th
it was still in good shape, but
the evenings were definately
not quite as fast on your hot sunny days.
You'll work for your fish, so try spending
a bit more time in the early morning.
We
were still seeing some tricos, but
not quite as regularly as previously.
Again, stick with small natural nymphs
during the day, or play with hoppers. We
did take a number of nice fish on
hoppers.
On August 15th, a good bit of
caddis action in the evening highlighted a good
day of fishing yesterday. A size 16
Goddard Caddis was the best producer, along with
a caddis emerger trailer.
Small nymphs continue to work.
To that point, we did catch a nice 19"
brown on a size 18 pheasant tail. Look to
the hopper action to get better, along with
varied terrestrials such as beetles and
ants. Small is best.
